Interview Tips:
- Find out what is appropriate to wear (ask your consultant) or if you are going straight to a client interview – our advice – “it’s always better to over dress!” Remember though, don’t use any overpowering perfumes or such like – it can put people off!
- Arrive on time, never too early, BUT NEVER LATE.
- A mobile is important, but so is your job interview, so keep it turned off or on silent.
- Be prepared – know who is conducting the meeting / interview and what their position is within the company.
- Always take along a copy of your most recent CV – even if the agency has sent it on ahead, you might have made slight alterations since.
- During the interview maintain eye contact – it is a good practice when communicating and stops you from being distracted from your question / answer.
- Listen to the questions closely and answer in as much detail as possible without going off on a tangent. The interviewee doesn’t want your whole life story, but a simple yes and no won’t cut the mustard!
- Show enthusiasm for the position – you really do want it and are the best person for the job – so show them! Be confident, but don’t oversell yourself.
- Most of all remember it’s a job interview, but you are entitled to ask questions of the interviewee’s as you are interviewing them as well. So have some notes / questions written to ask that will be relevant to the job or company.
- Before departing, ask what the next stage of the process will be so that you get some time lines and know who is going to be calling who.
- It is not a good practice to discuss remuneration at the first meeting. But if asked, your reply should indicate you believe the company will pay what the position is worth and will recognise the qualities and skills you will bring to the company and the remuneration will reflect this.
- Remember - good social graces go a long way towards making an impression – so use your manners!
